How to do the Band Overhead Triceps Extension
Step by step
- Stand on one end of a band and hold the other end with both hands.
- Raise your hands overhead, then bend your elbows so your hands drop behind your head.
- Point your elbows up and forward and keep your upper arms still.
- Straighten your arms overhead against the band's tension.
- Bend your elbows to lower your hands slowly back behind your head.
The thing people get wrong
Do not let your elbows flare out wide. Keeping them close to your head keeps the tension on the triceps through the full stretch.
Coaching cue
Keep your ribs down and do not arch your low back as you press overhead.
Stay safe
Stand firmly on the band and check it for nicks; if it slips it snaps back at your head.
