How to do the Banded Monster Walk
Step by step
- Loop a band just above your knees and stand in a quarter-squat with feet hip-width.
- Push your knees out so the band stays tight, and keep them pushed out the whole time.
- Walk forward with small, wide diagonal steps, planting each foot outside your hip line.
- After several steps, walk backward the same way to return to where you started.
- Take short breaks whenever you need - this should warm you up, not wear you out.
The thing people get wrong
Travel forward and back, not sideways - the wide diagonal step is what makes it a monster walk, and the knees must never cave inward.
Coaching cue
Stay down in the quarter-squat the whole walk; do not creep up taller as you step.
