How to do the Banded Monster Walk

Glutes and Hips · also works quads

Step by step

  1. Loop a band just above your knees and stand in a quarter-squat with feet hip-width.
  2. Push your knees out so the band stays tight, and keep them pushed out the whole time.
  3. Walk forward with small, wide diagonal steps, planting each foot outside your hip line.
  4. After several steps, walk backward the same way to return to where you started.
  5. Take short breaks whenever you need - this should warm you up, not wear you out.
The thing people get wrong

Travel forward and back, not sideways - the wide diagonal step is what makes it a monster walk, and the knees must never cave inward.

Coaching cue

Stay down in the quarter-squat the whole walk; do not creep up taller as you step.
