How to do the Cable Front Raise
Step by step
- Set a low pulley and stand facing away from the stack, holding the handle in one hand at your thigh.
- Start with the cable running behind you and your arm nearly straight.
- Raise the handle straight up in front of you to about shoulder height.
- Lower the handle back down slowly against the cable's pull.
- Finish all your reps on that arm, then swap the handle to your other hand and repeat.
The thing people get wrong
The cable keeps tension even at the bottom, so control the lowering. Avoid rocking your torso to help lift the handle.
Coaching cue
Keep your arm nearly straight and your wrist firm so the front of your shoulder does all the lifting.
Make it easier or harder
- Harder: Pause for two seconds at shoulder height on every rep.
Muscles worked
- Primary: Front delts
