How to do the Diamond Push-Up
Step by step
- Get into a push-up position and bring your hands together under your chest.
- Touch your index fingers and thumbs to form a diamond shape.
- Keep your body straight and lower your chest toward your hands with elbows tucked.
- Press back up to straight arms, keeping your elbows close to your sides.
The thing people get wrong
Keep your elbows tracking close to your ribs, not flaring wide - that narrow path is what shifts the work onto your triceps.
Coaching cue
Keep your hands under your chest, not up under your face.
Stay safe
Ease off if your wrists pinch; spread the diamond wider to soften the wrist angle.
Make it easier or harder
- Easier: Do them with your hands on a bench, or move the hands slightly apart.
- Harder: Raise your feet on a low box.
Muscles worked
- Primary: Triceps, Chest
- Secondary: Front delts, Core
What to do instead
Same job, different movement — useful if you don't have the equipment or it doesn't feel right today.
Daily Coach builds this into a real weekly plan. It picks the exercises for your equipment and experience, swaps around injuries you tell it about, and tracks what you actually lifted.
