How to do the Dumbbell Walking Lunge

Quads and Glutes · also works hamstrings, core

Step by step

  1. Hold a dumbbell in each hand at your sides and stand tall.
  2. Step forward into a long lunge and lower the back knee toward the floor.
  3. Keep your front knee over your ankle and torso upright.
  4. Drive through the front foot and step the back foot forward into the next lunge.
  5. Continue walking forward, alternating legs each step.
The thing people get wrong

Take long steps and stay tall - short, rushed steps push the front knee past the toes and throw off your balance.

Coaching cue

Let the dumbbells hang straight down and keep your shoulders stacked over your hips as you walk.

What to do instead

Same job, different movement — useful if you don't have the equipment or it doesn't feel right today.

Daily Coach builds this into a real weekly plan. It picks the exercises for your equipment and experience, swaps around injuries you tell it about, and tracks what you actually lifted.
