How to do the Lateral Shuffle
Step by step
- Drop into a low athletic stance with knees bent and chest up.
- Push off one foot and shuffle sideways, staying low.
- Keep your feet from clicking together - stay wide and quick.
- Shuffle a set distance one way, then shuffle back the other.
- Take short breaks whenever you need - this should build you up, not wear you out.
The thing people get wrong
Stay low the whole time and keep your feet from touching - popping up tall between steps kills the rhythm and the training effect.
Coaching cue
Push the floor away with your trailing foot instead of reaching with the lead foot.
Make it easier or harder
- Easier: Take slow side steps standing a little more upright.
- Harder: Stay lower, move faster, or touch the floor at each end.
Muscles worked
- Primary: Cardio, Glutes
- Secondary: Quads, Calves
