How to do the Leg Press Calf Raise
Step by step
- Sit in the leg press and place the balls of your feet on the lower half of the platform with your heels hanging off.
- Press the sled out until your knees are almost straight but not locked, then release the safety catches.
- Keep that slight knee bend and let your toes drop back for a full stretch in your calves.
- Push through the balls of your feet to press the sled up as far as you can.
- Lower slowly back into the stretch, and re-set the safety catches before you get out.
The thing people get wrong
Move only at your ankles and keep your knees still. Plant your feet firmly enough that they cannot slip off the edge of the platform.
Coaching cue
Keep your hips and back flat against the seat so your ankles do all the moving.
Stay safe
Never lock your knees, and stop if your feet creep toward the platform edge; a slip drops the sled.
Make it easier or harder
- Harder: Do one foot at a time with much lighter weight.
Muscles worked
- Primary: Calves
