How to do the Seated Forward Fold
Step by step
- Sit on the floor with both legs straight out in front of you.
- Sit tall, then hinge forward from your hips reaching toward your feet.
- Let your hands rest wherever they reach - shins, ankles, or toes.
- Relax into a gentle stretch along the back of the legs, then ease out slowly.
The thing people get wrong
Fold from the hips with a long spine rather than rounding hard to reach your toes - a slight knee bend is fine if your hamstrings are tight.
Coaching cue
Reach your chest toward your toes rather than your forehead toward your knees.
Make it easier or harder
- Easier: Sit on a folded towel so your hips tip forward more easily, and bend the knees a little.
- Harder: Pull your toes back toward you and reach past your feet.
Muscles worked
- Primary: Hamstrings
What to do instead
Same job, different movement — useful if you don't have the equipment or it doesn't feel right today.
Daily Coach builds this into a real weekly plan. It picks the exercises for your equipment and experience, swaps around injuries you tell it about, and tracks what you actually lifted.
