How to do the Seated Straddle Stretch
Step by step
- Sit on the floor and spread your legs wide into a straddle, toes up.
- Sit tall and lengthen your spine.
- Hinge forward from the hips, leading with your chest, until you feel the stretch.
- Breathe and hold at a comfortable depth.
The thing people get wrong
Lead with the chest and hinge from the hips - keeping a long spine keeps the stretch in the hamstrings and inner thighs.
Coaching cue
Keep your kneecaps and toes pointing at the ceiling so the legs do not roll in.
Make it easier or harder
- Easier: Sit on a folded towel, take the legs less wide, and keep a slight knee bend.
- Harder: Walk your hands further out and lower your chest toward the floor.
Muscles worked
- Primary: Hamstrings
- Secondary: Hips
