How to do the Sled Drag
Step by step
- Clip the strap or harness to the sled, hold the handles, and stand facing away from it.
- Walk forward with steady, controlled steps and let your legs pull the sled along.
- Keep constant tension on the strap so the sled slides smoothly instead of jerking.
- To work the fronts of your thighs instead, turn to face the sled, lean back on the strap, and walk backward.
- Cover your set distance or time, taking short breaks whenever you need.
The thing people get wrong
Let your legs do the work and keep steady tension - this is low-impact, so focus on smooth steps rather than jerking the sled along.
Coaching cue
Lean slightly away from the sled and let your body weight help drive each step.
Stay safe
Before you walk backward, check the path behind you is clear so you do not trip.
Make it easier or harder
- Easier: Take weight off the sled and cover a shorter distance.
- Harder: Add weight, or extend the distance you cover.
Muscles worked
- Primary: Cardio, Quads
- Secondary: Hamstrings, Glutes, Upper Back
