How to do the Stair Climber (Machine)

Cardio and Quads · also works glutes, calves

Step by step

  1. Step onto the pedals and start the machine at a slow, manageable speed.
  2. Stand tall with a light hand on the rail just for balance.
  3. Take full, even steps, pressing through the whole foot each stride.
  4. Keep a steady pace where your breathing is elevated but controlled.
  5. Slow the machine and take short breaks whenever you need - this should build you up, not wear you out.
The thing people get wrong

Do not lean your weight into the handrails - that takes the work out of your legs. Stay upright and let your legs carry you.

Coaching cue

Set a speed you could hold for the whole session, not one you have to fight after two minutes.

Stay safe

Face forward and hold the rail when getting on or off; the pedals keep moving.

Make it easier or harder

Muscles worked

Daily Coach builds this into a real weekly plan. It picks the exercises for your equipment and experience, swaps around injuries you tell it about, and tracks what you actually lifted.
