How to do the Upper Back Rounding Stretch

Upper Back · also works lats

Step by step

  1. Interlace your fingers and extend your arms straight out in front at chest height.
  2. Round your upper back and push your hands away, spreading the shoulder blades.
  3. Tuck your chin and let your head follow the round of the spine.
  4. Breathe into the space between the shoulder blades and hold.
The thing people get wrong

Push the hands away to spread the shoulder blades - the stretch is in the upper back rounding, not just the arms reaching.

Coaching cue

Pull your belly button in and breathe into the space between your shoulder blades.
