How to do the Water Jogging
Step by step
- Wear a flotation belt in deep water, or stay in chest-deep water where you can stand up any time you need to.
- Hold your torso tall with your core lightly braced and your chin level.
- Run with a full stride, driving your knees up and swinging your arms through the water.
- Keep a steady, comfortable rhythm and breathe normally.
- Hold the wall and take short breaks whenever you need - this should build you up, not wear you out.
The thing people get wrong
Water takes almost all the load off your joints, so use a full running motion - and only do this where a lifeguard or a partner is watching.
Coaching cue
Stay upright and tall rather than leaning forward and turning it into a swim.
Stay safe
Only do this where a lifeguard or partner is watching, and wear a belt in deep water.
Make it easier or harder
- Easier: Stay in chest-deep water where you can stand up any time.
- Harder: Move to deep water with a belt and push harder for timed intervals.
Muscles worked
- Primary: Cardio, Quads
- Secondary: Hamstrings, Core
