How to do the Band Lat Pulldown

Lats and Upper Back · also works biceps, forearms

Step by step

  1. Anchor a band overhead and kneel or sit below it, holding an end in each hand.
  2. Start with arms extended up and a slight lean back, core braced.
  3. Pull your hands down toward your upper chest, driving your elbows down and back.
  4. Squeeze your lats, then let your arms rise back up under control.
The thing people get wrong

Drive your elbows down toward your ribs rather than just pulling with your hands - that is what puts the work into your lats instead of your arms.

Coaching cue

Keep your chest up and stop your body rocking; only your arms should move.

Make it easier or harder

What to do instead

Same job, different movement — useful if you don't have the equipment or it doesn't feel right today.

Daily Coach builds this into a real weekly plan. It picks the exercises for your equipment and experience, swaps around injuries you tell it about, and tracks what you actually lifted.
