How to do the Band Shoulder Press

Front delts and Triceps · also works side delts

Step by step

  1. Stand on the middle of a band and hold the ends at your shoulders, palms forward.
  2. Set your feet about hip-width and brace your core.
  3. Press your hands straight overhead until your arms are extended.
  4. Lower back to shoulder height with control, resisting the band on the way down.
The thing people get wrong

Control the band on the way down instead of letting it snap your arms back - the lowering phase is where much of the work happens.

Coaching cue

Press straight up over your head, not out in front, and keep your ribs down.

Stay safe

Check the band for nicks and tears first; you are standing on it, so a snap comes up at your face.

What to do instead

Same job, different movement — useful if you don't have the equipment or it doesn't feel right today.

Daily Coach builds this into a real weekly plan. It picks the exercises for your equipment and experience, swaps around injuries you tell it about, and tracks what you actually lifted.
