How to do the Cable Lateral Raise
Step by step
- Set a pulley to the lowest point and stand side-on, holding the handle in the hand farther from the stack.
- Let the cable cross in front of your body with a slight bend in your elbow.
- Keep your torso still and your working shoulder pressed down.
- Raise your arm out to the side up to about shoulder height against the cable.
- Lower slowly back across your body, then finish your reps and repeat with the other arm.
The thing people get wrong
The cable keeps tension on your side shoulder the whole range. Avoid leaning away or shrugging to lift - keep the motion smooth.
Coaching cue
Start every rep from the fully crossed position so the cable stretches the side of your shoulder.
Make it easier or harder
- Harder: Pause for two seconds at shoulder height before lowering.
Muscles worked
- Primary: Side delts
What to do instead
Same job, different movement — useful if you don't have the equipment or it doesn't feel right today.
Daily Coach builds this into a real weekly plan. It picks the exercises for your equipment and experience, swaps around injuries you tell it about, and tracks what you actually lifted.
