How to do the Calf Stretch
Step by step
- Stand facing a wall and place both hands on it at chest height.
- Step one foot back with the leg straight and heel pressed into the floor.
- Lean forward into the wall until you feel a stretch in the back calf.
- Hold gently and breathe, then switch legs.
The thing people get wrong
Keep the back leg straight with the heel down - if the heel lifts you lose the stretch. Bending that knee is a separate variation for the lower calf.
Coaching cue
Point the back toes straight at the wall so the foot does not roll outward.
Make it easier or harder
- Easier: Step the back foot closer to the wall so the lean is shallower.
- Harder: Step the back foot farther back and lean in further.
Muscles worked
- Primary: Calves
What to do instead
Same job, different movement — useful if you don't have the equipment or it doesn't feel right today.
Daily Coach builds this into a real weekly plan. It picks the exercises for your equipment and experience, swaps around injuries you tell it about, and tracks what you actually lifted.
