How to do the Dumbbell Front Raise

Front delts

Step by step

  1. Stand holding a dumbbell in each hand in front of your thighs, palms facing you.
  2. Brace your core and keep a slight bend in your elbows.
  3. Raise the weights straight in front of you to about shoulder height.
  4. Lower them back down under control without swinging.
The thing people get wrong

Raise only to about shoulder height and avoid rocking your body to swing the weight up - use lighter dumbbells so the front shoulders do the work.

Coaching cue

Squeeze your glutes and keep your ribs down so your back does not arch as the weights rise.

What to do instead

Same job, different movement — useful if you don't have the equipment or it doesn't feel right today.

Daily Coach builds this into a real weekly plan. It picks the exercises for your equipment and experience, swaps around injuries you tell it about, and tracks what you actually lifted.
