How to do the Machine Lateral Raise
Step by step
- Adjust the seat so the pads rest against the outside of your upper arms, just above the elbows.
- Sit tall with your arms down at your sides and take hold of the handles.
- Push your upper arms out against the pads and raise them to about shoulder height.
- Lower back down under control, resisting the weight on the way down.
The thing people get wrong
Lead the movement with your elbows and stop around shoulder height - lifting higher shifts the work off your side shoulders and onto your traps.
Coaching cue
Push against the pads with your upper arms and keep your hands loose on the handles.
Make it easier or harder
- Harder: Take three seconds to lower the pads on every rep.
Muscles worked
- Primary: Side delts
What to do instead
Same job, different movement — useful if you don't have the equipment or it doesn't feel right today.
Daily Coach builds this into a real weekly plan. It picks the exercises for your equipment and experience, swaps around injuries you tell it about, and tracks what you actually lifted.
