How to do the Mountain Climber
Step by step
- Start in a push-up position with hands under shoulders and body in a straight line.
- Brace your core so your hips do not bounce up and down.
- Drive one knee toward your chest, then switch legs in a running motion.
- Keep a steady, controlled pace rather than rushing.
- Take short breaks whenever you need - this should raise your heart rate, not wear you out.
The thing people get wrong
Keep your hips low and level - letting them pike up or sag turns it into a sloppy, less effective drill.
Coaching cue
Keep your shoulders stacked right over your hands so you do not rock forward and back.
Make it easier or harder
- Easier: Slow it down and step one foot up at a time, or put your hands on a bench.
- Harder: Speed up the turnover, or drive each knee across toward the opposite elbow.
Muscles worked
- Primary: Cardio, Core
What to do instead
Same job, different movement — useful if you don't have the equipment or it doesn't feel right today.
Daily Coach builds this into a real weekly plan. It picks the exercises for your equipment and experience, swaps around injuries you tell it about, and tracks what you actually lifted.
