How to do the Rowing Machine
Step by step
- Strap your feet in and grab the handle with a relaxed overhand grip.
- Push with your legs first, then lean back slightly, then pull the handle to your ribs.
- Reverse the order on the return: arms out, lean forward, then bend the knees.
- Keep a smooth, steady rhythm and breathe with each stroke.
The thing people get wrong
Legs, then body, then arms - and reverse on the way back; keep it a conversational pace and take short breaks whenever you need.
Coaching cue
Slide back out to the start slower than you drove out; do not rush the return.
Make it easier or harder
- Easier: Row in short blocks at an easy pace with rests between.
- Harder: Add time, or pull harder on each stroke while keeping the order clean.
Muscles worked
- Primary: Cardio, Upper Back
- Secondary: Lats, Quads
What to do instead
Same job, different movement — useful if you don't have the equipment or it doesn't feel right today.
Daily Coach builds this into a real weekly plan. It picks the exercises for your equipment and experience, swaps around injuries you tell it about, and tracks what you actually lifted.
